Helen Martin BA(Hons), MBACP

I’m a fully qualified, BACP-registered counsellor providing individual therapy for adults (18+). I work in-person from my peaceful therapy rooms in Basingstoke, Hampshire, and also offer online therapy across the UK.

While my training is grounded in the psychodynamic tradition, which explores how past experiences and relationships shape the way we think, feel, and relate in the present, my practice is fundamentally relational. I offer a safe, warm and approachable space where you can feel truly heard, understood and supported.  Over the years, I’ve worked with individuals navigating a wide range of challenges, including anxietydepressiongrief and lossrelationship difficulties, and the lasting effects of trauma – both recent and rooted in the past. Within this, I have extensive experience supporting people with low self-esteemself-harmdisordered eatingabuse and complex and intergenerational trauma. My work supports helping you to cope, building emotional resilience and moving towards a life that feels more stable, connected and fulfilling.

I have an interest in supporting people through loss and bereavement. Loss can affect us in many different ways, and it isn’t always straightforward or predictable. I offer a steady, compassionate space to explore what your loss means for you, to help make sense of the emotions that are arising, and to find ways of coping that feel more manageable and supportive.

Alongside my private practice, I also work with 2Wish (www.2wish.org.uk), a charity that provides free, confidential support to those affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under. This includes, but is not limited to, parents, siblings, grandparents, partners, extended family, friends, witnesses, and professionals such as healthcare workers, emergency services and educators.

As one of their counsellors working in the local community, this work is deeply meaningful to me. It involves offering compassionate, specialist support to individuals and families at some of the most painful and disorienting moments of their lives. Being part of a service that holds people with such care and dignity is an important and valued aspect of my professional practice.

Furthermore, I also practice at a local counselling agency and mentor counselling trainees. These roles enrich my therapeutic work, allowing me to contribute to the wider field of counselling and support others in their development.

As part of my ongoing commitment to ethical and reflective practice, I regularly attend supervision and continued professional development. This includes further training, study, and reflective learning to ensure my work remains thoughtful, responsive, and attuned to each client I work with.
